About UNKNOWN (Unknown Trilogy #1):

Amber Tate believes the worst thing she’ll suffer in life is dealing with the unrequited love she feels for her brother’s best friend, Rylen Fite. She also believes war is something unfortunate that happens places far, far away from her rural Nevada town. She’s wrong on both counts.

When an unknown organization meticulously bombs major cities in the United States and across the globe, a trickle-down effect spreads to remaining towns at an alarming speed—everything from food and water sources to technology and communications are compromised. Without leadership, the nation is split between paralysis and panic, but Amber isn’t one to hide or watch helplessly. She’s determined to put her nursing skills to use, despite the danger, even if it means working alongside the man she can never have.

In this first installment of NY Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins’s debut New Adult series, a frighteningly realistic apocalyptic America is brought to life, entwined with searing romantic tension that will leave you eager for more.

About UNREST (Unknown Trilogy #2):

Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities...lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can't escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.

In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy's identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.

***********  Excerpt from UNREST, book 2: Amber and Rylen**************

I lay my head on his shoulder and barely registered the gentle bouncing of his steps up the stairs and down our hall. A minute later I felt him touch my butt, pulling my key from my back pocket. He kicked the door closed behind us and set me on the bed. I started to snuggle down, then shot to my feet, disoriented, as I remembered this bedtime was being forced upon me. I stumbled toward the wall. He caught me by the middle of my shirt, holding the material in his fist, and walked me backward until I was against the wall.
“Relax,” he said. “You’re all right.”
Our aloneness tightened around me like a bubble of hyperawareness.
“Ry,” I whispered. My hands went to his biceps, warm and solid. He closed his eyes and opened them again slowly.
“You’ve probably said enough for tonight,” he whispered back.
He was trying to shush me. I shook my head, and it was like slow motion, as if I my skull were rocking back and forth on a ship.
“I’ve lot mores to say.” I could hear the slur in my words, the ridiculousness of my lack of control, but I focused on Rylen’s pursed, full lips and a sensation of desire overrode the amusement.
He let go of my shirt and put his hands loosely on his hips. “You need to go to bed.”
“No.” I poked him in the hard chest and leaned forward too fast. I pressed both palms to his chest to balance myself. “God, Rylen” I said, feeling the contours of his pecs and watching my hands as I explored. It took a great deal of effort to lift my heavy head and look into his tired eyes. The comfort of that bluish gray tint was something I wanted to nestle down into. I rose up on my toes and moved my face close to his. So close, I could feel his breaths against my own lips.
“Pepper.” Rylen took both my hands from his chest and brought them back down to my sides, putting me firmly back on my feet.
“I love you,” I said softly.
“I love you, too.” His voice was that of a man trying to appease a child. “Now, let’s get you to bed.”
“Don’t,” I said too loudly. I pulled away from his grip and brought my hands up to his neck. This time when I looked at him I felt him soften under my touch. I rose up on my toes again, touching our noses, and he wrenched his face to the side.
    “Pepper, seriously.”
    “Please,” I begged.
He took my arms and brought them down again, this time holding my wrists at my sides. God, he made me so mad!
    “You…” I searched my addled brain. “You’re a…”
    “Don’t finish that sentence.”
    “You’re a clit tease!” I shouted.
His eyebrows flew up and then he chuckled deeply. His mouth went to my ear as he pressed me into the wall and said, “I assure you, I’m not.” A shiver made me press my pelvis upward toward his. His own hips jolted backward at the touch and he hissed my name in warning. “Amber…”
    “Kiss me,” I breathed.
He pulled back, and his face was guarded. “You’re drunker than I thought.”
I flung his hands from my wrists, feeling frustrated as the weight of years’ worth of emotions pressed down on me. I was sick and tired of not being taken seriously by this man.

About UNDONE (Unknown Trilogy #3):

Amber Tate never dreamed their heart-wrenching escape from the enemy’s attack would lead them to the most beautiful place she’s ever seen. Like everywhere else in the world, Elmendorf military base in Alaska has been taken over, but it’s time to take it back—all of it—one base, one city at a time. After losing so much, Amber clings to the one precious person she has left, and vows to sacrifice everything to help save the Earth.

Remy Haines is a lover, not a fighter, so when she finds herself in enemy territory, expected to feign allegiance while gathering intel for the rebel cause, she’s never been more out of her element. Tensions only increase when her feelings for Jacob “Tater” Tate won’t go away, and the enemy’s leader takes an interest in her. She’s torn between what her heart wants, and what she knows she should do. As for what her body needs…well, it’s always had a mind of its own.

Excerpt:

The next morning, Lyndie tried to convince herself that she’d agreed to marry Brock only because of the wine.
Cabernet said I’d have no regrets, but cabernet could be a no-good liar, so…
A dozen times she picked up her phone, intending to call or text him, only to stop.
On one hand, marriage. On the other, baby. If she had a third hand, sex.
More wine could balance things out. Breakfast wine—good idea. She walked to her wine closet—AKA her pantry. Only four bottles remained. Time to restock. For now she’d go with merlot, a more honest wine. Honesty mattered!
Despite the early-morning hours, a single glass helped mellow her mood. Merlot + marriage = possible win. Merlot + marriage + possible pregnancy = total landslide.
I can do this.
Even better, she would do this.
A little bit later, a text from Brock came in.
How’s my soon to be wifey-poo doing this morning?
Her heart started to race, and not just with nervousness. She replied, She’s almost calm. Are we really going to do this???
A few seconds, and his response came in. In my fantasies, we already have. But we’ll get to that later. How do you feel about a Sunday wedding… one week from today??? I warned you we’d do this quick.
Okay, from wanting more to wanting to vomit. A cold sweat beaded her forehead. She had next Monday off, so technically, timing worked. She typed, I feel like time is gonna pass quicker than a hot knife through butter. If we get hitched on a Sunday, it’ll have to be after church services. So why not go to the courthouse and get this whole thing over with?
One minute passed. Then another. She waited with bated breath until her phone buzzed.
Brock: I’ll talk to the pastor at Strawberry Community Church. I’m certain he’ll let us do the deed between services. And we’re doing it this way because we’re Hudsons, and Hudsons do things right. Sometimes. Fine—because I want to see you in a gown, walking down the aisle. Yes, that’s right. You’ve given me a gown fetish. I hope you’re happy.
Lyndie smiled.
Brock: You’re still a go? Because if I need to give you a sample of my bedroom prowess to convince you, I will man up and do my duty.

EXCERPT: “But… marriage? ”Lyndie asked. “I promised myself I’d never do the whole legal-ties thing again.” Straight white teeth nibbled on her bottom lip. “How long would our marriage last?” “I don’t know exactly.” Anticipation blended with excitement, driving Brock mad in the best possible way. So close to victory! “I’ll need to find the employees of the Hud and Son Group new jobs before I dismantle the company. There will be no collateral damage on my watch.” The employees were innocent, and he wouldn’t leave them in the lurch. “If I had to guess, I’d say a month. Maybe two, but not likely.” Her beautiful lips shaped the words, One month. His father’s will had two stipulations: Brock had to be married in order to run the business and, if he planned to continue running it, he had to remain married. Daddy Dearest had used the perfect bait. Miranda’s downfall. He’d known Brock would seethe as he imagined his mother rich, happy, and carefree. What Brock hadn’t yet comprehended? Why his father cared about his relationship status at all. What made his father think a commitment would “bring him out of the darkness and into the light?” Thankfully—and shockingly—there’d been no requirements for Brock’s wife. No “proper” pedigree. No reputation above reproach. No set family worth. The very requirements for the girls he’d dated in high school. Little wonder he’d always gravitated toward wild, tattooed biker babes. Lyndie was an anomaly, everything he’d never wanted but now had to have. She gulped. “Would we live together?” “Yes. For the sake of appearances, but also because your safety and peace of mind matter to me.” He would be on his best behavior. Would sidestep any conversations about the terrible things he’d done in the past. She would never know how much blood stained his hands. “I will continue to protect you from Rick Lambert. From anyone who threatens you.” Her shoulders rolled in. “I’m a magnet for crazies, aren’t I?” “Scottie, you’re a magnet, period.” She drew in a deep breath, slowly released it. “I’m shocked to admit this, but I like the idea of having you here… which makes me not want to have you here. I can’t learn to rely on you. I must rely on myself.” Craved her independence? “What if I promise not to ever cook your meals or clean the house or do anything gentlemanly?” The corners of her mouth twitched. “That would help, yes.” Closer still! “We’d have to sleep in separate bedrooms though. I’m not going to get used to your warmth.” Twin pink circles stained her cheeks. A flush of embarrassment… or pleasure? “But, uh, just to be clear,” she said, and gulped, “you will want to have sex with me, yes?” His excitement deflated. Did she not want to have sex with him? “Yes. I will. I do. I hope you’ll want to have sex with me.” Many times. Every night. “If you allow me into your bed, I will make your pleasure a top priority. But I will expect nothing, and I will never pressure you for something you aren’t willing to give. The money will be yours whether we sleep together or not.” Her breath hitched. Her pupils grew, black spilling over amber. Her nails dug into her knees, as if… no way. As if she had to stop herself from reaching for him. He went still. She wanted him. Lyndie Scott wanted him. Do not pound your chest like a gorilla. “I don’t want your money, Brock.” Heart thudding against his ribs, he opened his mouth to tell her that he’d give her anything. If she wanted him to beg, he would beg. He had no pride. Not with her. Shoulders squared, she added, “I want your sperm.” Uh, what the what now? His brain short-circuited. Groaning, she hunched over to anchor her elbows on her knees and cover her face with her upraised hands. “I think I misheard you,” he rasped, but deep down realization had begun to click. Lyndie Scott had caught the baby fever. She might agree to marry him, but she expected a child in return.

EXCERPT: Did he ever think of our night together in the tent? I did. Without a doubt, I’d been tipsy, but I remembered everything. For so many years there was tension between us. It started as annoyance, my best friend’s older brother who always acted like a douche. Then, after he joined the Army and came back to visit, it was like he’d matured just enough to lose that obnoxious edge and I realized for the first time how sexy he was. I wanted him. Back then, pursuing guys had been my vice, but I knew Amber might be weirded out by it. When I thought back to that night at the nature reserve…it was really our last night of true freedom and happiness. It’s strange to think we were happy, especially since our parents had been taken prisoners at that point, and we’d watched his grandfather be killed, but we still had hope. We thought we’d get our parents back. We didn’t have any idea just how horrible things were. Or that aliens were real. I rubbed the prickly hairs on my arms down and took another bite. I didn’t want to think about that night in the tent. The sound of Tater’s laughter. His wide smile. The way the neck of my loose shirt had slid down while I was arranging my sleeping bag and laughing drunkenly. His warm mouth as he kissed me on my exposed shoulder…when I turned to him, Tater had never looked more serious. It had been a look of question, like, “Is this all right?” And I’d responded by sliding my hand behind his neck and pulling him down on top of me. Now he never smiled or laughed. “How are things in the fields?” I asked him. Tater gave a single shrug, not looking up or saying a word. “If you’re wondering,” Linette said with spite, “Things are amazing with the livestock. I can fill a bucket with milk in record time, and helped a mama swine birth seven piglets yesterday. I’m a regular fucking Farmer Jane.” Before I could respond, Tater whispered, “I need you to get us a radio.” Our end of the table went silent and still. I glanced at the guards, who were surveying the room with bland expressions, then I forced another bite into my mouth. When I looked up again, Linette had that crazed look in her eyes, staring straight ahead. Her strategizing look. “Are there cameras in the room where you teach?” she asked. “I don’t know,” I whispered. “How can you not know?” she asked, annoyed. “Look today.” “Okay, but there’s no way I can take anything. I’m never alone.” “The guards cannot be staring at you the entire time.” Linette nodded to the bag at my side. “Slip it in there.” “Remy,” Tater said to his bowl. “If you can get your hands on anything electronic, we can try to use it at night to send or receive signals, and you can return it in the morning.” My stomach was roiling at the idea. There’s a reason I didn’t join the military. Stealth and danger were not my things. But I was the only one with access to the palace. “I’ll look,” I promised. “Have you been alone with him yet?” Linette asked. My innards seized at this, churning my breakfast. I felt both of their eyes on me as I stared at the pasty contents in my bowl and minutely shook my head. “Make it happen,” she demanded. From the corner of my eye it looked like Tater was holding his spoon so hard he might bend it in his fist. I reached out with my leg as far as I could under the table until my foot touched his. The contact, even through our shoes, sent blood whooshing to every nerve in my body. I watched as his hand relaxed on the spoon, and he pressed his foot to mine. Our eyes never met. We were quiet as we finished. “Did Remy tell you her fantastically stupid idea to try and teach the girls in our room after hours?” Tater’s eyes flew up to me, scorching me, and I looked at the guard again. When I found one of them staring straight at me, my demeanor changed to demure and I gave the guard a soft smile before looking back down. From the corner of my eye I saw Tater’s hands clench into fists again, and he brought them under the table to his lap. “Rem…” Tater’s voice was filled with warning. “It’s fine,” I whispered, grabbing my tray and standing. “Don’t worry.” I wished Linette hadn’t told him that. As if he didn’t have enough crap on his mind. I sent her a glare, which she returned, and I caught one last look of Tater’s stiff form, hands in his lap, knee bouncing and jaw locked. I wished so badly I could hug him and try to calm him. But all I could do was walk away.
